4-Ingredient Banana Bread Recipe
This banana bread with no baking soda uses only four simple ingredients. All of them nutritious, really easy to find in stores and even more easy to prepare for a quick and easy banana bread.
Trust me when I say this will be your new favorite recipe especially for quick after school snacks. So happy baking!
Ingredients
To make this banana bread recipe with self-rising flour, you will need the following ingredients:
- Overripe bananas: overripe bananas are the ones that have brown spots all over their skin. So, the browner the banana skin the better and sweeter the bananas for a delicious banana cake
- Self raising flour: to avoid any other ingredients that will help the bread rise such as baking powder or baking soda, make sure to use self-rising flour
- Peanut butter: nut butters, especially peanut butter, are a great alternative to eggs. And they are also full of protein and healthy fats so are actually a great ingredient for baked recipes. I prefer to use smooth peanut butter in this recipe, but you are free to use the crunchy one as well. Just make sure if using store-bought that it doesn’t have added sugar or palm oil.
- Dark chocolate chips: since I’m not using any sweeteners such as dark brown sugar, white sugar or coconut sugar, I decided to add some dark chocolate chips to the banana batter. It’s also more appealing to the eye.
How To Make Banana Bread with No Baking Soda – Step by Step

- Use another nut butter: instead of peanut butter, you can use pretty much and nut butter. Just make sure that it doesn’t have added salt or palm oil if store-bought.
- Add some fresh berries: instead of dark chocolate chips, you can add some fresh berries to the batter. This will give an even more moist banana bread.
- Decorate with some cut up bananas on top before putting into the oven to bake.

FAQ
Banana bread doesn’t require any rising time, it uses basic ingredients, and you don’t really need any additional equipment to make it other than an oven. So that is why it is a quick bread.
If you insert a toothpick in the middle of the bread and it comes out almost clean, your bread is baked.
You can, but they will be harder to mash because underripe bananas are just harder. They will also not be as sweet as ripe or overripe ones which can influence the overall taste of your bread.
